International Baccalaureate (IB)
Primary Years Programme
(Early Years: Ages 3–12)
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in the Early Years supports young children as curious, capable learners who explore the world through play, discovery, and meaningful experiences.
Learning takes place through inquiry, where children ask questions, explore ideas, and make sense of their world in developmentally appropriate ways.
Through student agency, children are encouraged to make choices, share their thinking, and take an active role in their learning.
The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child (socially, emotionally, physically, and academically) within a caring and supportive learning environment.
Through guided inquiry and hands-on experiences, children develop:
- Understanding across subject areas
- Essential learning skills
- Positive attitudes such as kindness, curiosity, and respect
Children are also encouraged to take action by applying what they learn through responsible choices and caring behaviours within their classroom and community.
The Early Years PYP nurtures confident, compassionate learners who are building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
The attributes that make up the IB community profile are:
- Informed and educated
- Inquirers Thinkers
- Good communicators
- Integrity
- Open- minded
- Supportive
- Bold
- Balanced
- Reflective

International Baccalaureate (IB)
Both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Montessori approaches share a deep commitment to the development of the whole child.
They support children’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth, helping each learner reach their full potential.
Both philosophies:
- Value freedom of movement and meaningful interaction within the classroom
- Encourage child-led learning in environments designed to inspire creativity, exploration, and inquiry support
- Support transdisciplinary learning, allowing children to make connections across areas of learning
- Emphasize hands-on experiences using real, purposeful materials
- Nurture self-motivation and cooperation through meaningful work, rather than reward-based systems
- Honour errors as an essential part of learning process, strengthening autonomy, confidence and resilience
- Promote peace education, kindness, and the development of children as active, responsible members of society
Together, IB and Montessori create a learning environment where children are respected as capable learners and supported to grow with confidence, curiosity, and compassion.
